When I first came to Braunschweig, I noticed: wide streets, many cars – but hardly any people. I wondered: Do only cars live here? I began following the sounds of the cars. The city seemed built for vehicles – and the car became my subject.I’m especially interested in moving cars: their motions, their rolling, their circling. I didn’t want to capture their sounds technically, but physically and subjectively. Using a recorder, phone, and notebook, I documented how the sounds change depending on location, weather, or time of day. Over the course of two years, a deeply personal sound map of Braunschweig emerged.
