At the beginning of 2023, I led the workshop “9 Balls: Sound Drawing-Music” at Stadtgalerie Künstlerhaus Lauenburg, involving both deaf and hearing participants. For the workshop, a playing field with several sections was constructed, where nine different balls could be used to create sound through various movements and styles of play—making sound something that could be both experienced and felt. The participants drew the sounds and composed them into individual graphic scores. I was fascinated by how one deaf participant visualized sound—she drew from a perspective I had never considered before. I’m very interested in offering more workshops and educational programs with deaf and blind individuals, collecting and analyzing drawings with them, and exploring different systems of perception.
